I watched on CNN how they just got done rebuilding the Louisiana SuperDome, and I thought….gee….they must be proud of themselves. They’ll keep the dudes in the sports bars and the athletes happy. So how much did they spend to DO this?
One hundred and eighty-four MILLION dollars! Let that number just soak in for a minute.
And now think about all those residents and displaced people who are STILL living in shelters, out on the street, or in whatever place they can find to live, and then see if you still feel as comfy with that amount being built on a sporting arena. I know if I was a resident of Louisiana, I would not be comfy with that thought at all – especially if my home was destroyed in that hurricane last year. That money could have been spent on getting houses rebuilt, or houses BUILT for those who are without a place to live instead of some sporting arena. Is there a practical reason for that course of action? I sure hope so, because I’m not seeing one.
Somehow it makes even less sense than all those mobile homes just sitting there, not being used…when they COULD be used to help families rebuild their lives after one of the worst disasters we’ve faced in a very long time.
It just gob-smacks me….$184,000,000.00!!! ON A SPORTING ARENA – rather than humanitarian reasons. What ARE they thinking……or ARE they thinking??
So next time you’re watching some team play in that newly-rebuilt stadium, be sure to raise your glasses, and say a few prayers for all those residents who are still struggling to survive, just to make sure your favorite athletes have a nice place to play sports in.
I give up on trying to make sure I update my MySpace and here, so since this is the one that was first, then this is where I will be! I finished my week of work and mandatory OT, so now comes my 2nd job….trying to make some semblance of order in our house. I can’t believe we’ve been in this place for a few months now, and there are STILL boxes laying around. So it’s time to get serious and get some stuff unpacked.
I think moving from a larger house to a smaller one presents its own series of unique challenges, not much unlike those “Road Block” tasks in The Amazing Race, but without the million dollar prize at the end. That’s okay though, because it keeps me busy, gives me something to do, and gosh darn it….I should take some pride in our homeplace. I broke out my “goth stompers” for the fall and winter months, and yes….I wear them at home AND at work. Don’t worry though…that’s as extravagant as I get at my current work place. I think being a little TOO over the top pretty much led to my downfall at an earlier place – although I still believe that there were other factors in play there.
I got the full version of Samorost2 from a friend of mine at work, so now I got to see how the second one played out. The dude who was smoking in the first one? He makes ANOTHER appearance in Samorost2! I think it’s a pic of the designer myself. I mean…what other explanation COULD there be? I used my DVD-recorder for the first time last night with resounding success! Since we already own the discs, we’re just making backups for the kidlets. At least that much they say you CAN do, so no worries.
This weekend should prove VERY interesting to see how it unfolds. Wish me luck!
If you like Myst, and like pretty surreal art, then you really need to check out Samorost:
There is a second one linked from that site, but the second one is only one playable chapter. If you want to play Chapter 2 of Samorost 2, then you gotta pony up the fundage. May be worth it though!
Well, I finally found a place to go that’s not only a public place, but it’s a place where I can go as I like, and still feel welcomed. I think if I’m going to make a go of things here, in this all-too familiar place, then I guess I’ll need to carve my own niche. That’s okay though….I have my “Axe of Determination” and my “Thwomp Hammer of Doom”, so if I can’t bludgeon my own carving, then I must be doing something wrong. I’ve also made good friends who live life by their own rules as well, and I have to say that I’m elated.
When I meet people of different lifestyles in my travels, I try to make it a point to learn as much as I can about it, so that way I know more about people in life in general, and also can do my best to show the proper respect. I haven’t found any one lifestyle as such, so I just live my life by basic respect principles. There are people in life that you can trust, and those that you cannot. You never know until you make that leap of faith, and so far, every time I have, it’s been very much worth the effort. Do I expect everyone I meet to understand what I like in life? Of course not, not everyone does. Do I expect to be treated with a decent amount of decency? Of course I do. Some might say I’m a fetishist, and some might liken me to being an exhibitionist, but no…..not really. I know what I like, and I really don’t like to hide it a whole lot.
It’s getting to be the time of year where summer leaves and fall begins, so this is the perfect time of year for me. We had some days of rain which was really nice, and the only thing missing was the morning fog. I had a lot of that out in California, which was awesome, and every once in a while, I got it in Denver too. I haven’t seen so much of the fog though…the rest was okay though. I’m glad that I’m not working on Halloween, so that way I can go out and about. I think the best time I had was when I was working at Wally World. I didn’t work that Halloween either, but I did go out in full regalia and had a LOT of double-takes, plus 3 teen guys who followed me in, and once I said HI to one of my friends, just about cracked the tiling when their jaws hit the ground. PRICELESS!!! There’s nothing better than “freaking the mundanes”, I think. I found a great place to get a cool deal on what are now my favourite platforms, so this week, I’ll have to place another order. I need to get a more discreet colour this time since the ones I have now are a little…….flashy. 😉 You have to go with what you like though…….right?
I’m getting ready to do the next iteration of my website, and trying to come up with a theme should prove interesting. I have a LOT of reformatting to do, getting things tweaked just the right way, and then publishing the whole mess in one fell swoop. After getting burned on the last couple of projects I did, I’m only doing my site, and the fan club site that I’ve been doing for THE best Japanese/American singer……..EVER. Anything other than that will require a HUGE amount of soul-searching, and of course….getting everything typed out in writing and agreed upon before ANYthing gets done.
Part of me wishes we could up sticks and go back to Denver or CA, but the other part is thinking that I’m doing much better now, have a great job, and actually have quite a bit of extra cash after the bills are paid each payday, so perhaps it’s not such a bad thing after all. Besides….me mum and I have had conversations about how I like to live my life, and surprisingly she’s just fine with it, so I really can’t complain. Besides….I think I feel another coffee klatch forming! Nothing could beat the one that we had in Denver, but…..I think it’ll come pretty close! Yay!
Well, I did some shopping online and got some nice things. Finally got my new computer, so now I can go to work even harder on my websites and image ideas, and won some auctions for some comics and a new Star Trek ship (yay). It’s just too easy to go shopping.
The cool thing is that they are so freakin’ comfy, yet at the same time, where I am now, I really don’t have many places to wear them. I guess I’ll need to take some more trips to remedy that situation!
I think I’m just way too dangerous with an account, but hey….after the past few years of living uber-tightly, I think I deserve some rewards for it all.
I’m sitting here watching the news, and of course, today we all know what’s all over the news……remembering 5 years ago today. I watched a Discovery Channel special, “Inside The Twin Towers”, and it showed some fascinating insight into what happened that day. I couldn’t believe that the people in the second tower were being told by security to go back to their offices, and that everything was OK! If it was me, I woulda told that security guy to go stuff himself and left! No job is worth hanging around in such a perilous place like that at the time. What were they thinking? It was a tragic time, true……now it’s time to let people heal and let them rebuild and move on.
I had my own little reality cheque the other morning when my stereo faceplate and CD’s got ripped off and my dash console trashed, so I had to take my own action to rebuild, and thankfully they didn’t get the rest of the stereo, so at least I was able to get that part replaced and working again. I still have to replace the rest of the plastic facade around it, but at least everything still WORKS, so I’m fortunate there. I guess I have to go back to my L.A. practices, and make sure everything is triple-checked, and locked up tighter than a drum every night again – gads, I hate thieves and young hoodlums who have nothing better to do. I really hope the police catch them and soon…..methinks they need their own dose of a reality cheque…..with interest.
I was violated today, as I’m sure many have in their lives. I go out to my vehicle today, and found it busted up, the face-plate to my stereo gone (the rest of it is still there), and the lower parts all broken up so they can’t be re-done. That, and they stole a bunch of my CD’s (I hope they like freshly burnt randomness)…..GAH it pisses me off. I know I’m echoing the sentiment of many others when I wish I could find who did this and upside their head with the clue-by-four of vengeance something fierce. Of course, this happens after I witness a young guy at Pita Pit successfully avert a fight between a couple of other guys without resorting to violence……boy…just when I thought maybe perhaps there is some hope for the future. I guess no matter how rosy the garden is, there are thorns and weeds where you least expect them. Now I have to spend my days off looking for replacement parts, since I’m not going to just leave everything all broken up like it is – no way! I have some pride ya know. Punks….GAH! Biff ’em all upside the head!
No, I’m not talking “new-wave punks” either….it’s those who have no respect for anyone else’s property….THOSE are the ones I’m pissed at. Crack-heads. I thought moving back to this area might be at least somewhat safe, but guess what? Anywhere you go, there is some knucklehead just being a jackwad and just being generally annoying to the rest of us. There goes one of my days off, I suppose. *sigh*…more money that could be used for nice things, instead now being used to bring back my little status quo. Is it so wrong to want nice things in life? Is it just too much to ask to have people make an honest living rather than going around trying to steal and rip people off? Maybe around here, that is too much to hope for.
The next one who touches my ride though……….*WHAMM!!!* Right UPSIDE THE HEAD! GYAHHH!
Not much going on these days really specific to talk about, although I read a lot online. I’ve found people who think I don’t do very well for myself without actually saying it, I’ve found out more about people that have proven to be much more interesting than perceived before, and I’ve found that at times, things are not what they seem to be. I’ve come to accept the fact that fate has placed me here for a reason, and things are actually going very well, and I’ve come to know that if I am going to change anything in my life, the only person who is going to be able to do that is me.
I’ve made and lost friends where I work, and yes I do count them as my friends even though I barely ever see them outside of the workplace. I’ve seen shows about people who don’t know how to drive, and shows about people who live something like I have, but much much worse. I’ve learned a long time ago from one of my friends that it’s a great thing to live life as you will, but please do not do any harm to others. I’ve done my best to live by that saying, but it seems some that I know of have not done the same. I’m not going to name any names, because it solves nothing like that, but those who have know who they are. Those who have stuck by me over the years, I truly appreciate your being there all this time. I’ve known people from all walks of life, and have even had some brushes with truly fabulous people. I count myself lucky, as I’ve even had the great fortune of getting to know a bit more about one of my favourite inspirational people, so I can’t say nothing good has happened.
It’s always nice to see what the future holds however. I’m pretty sure though, that it will be a good thing.
