It’s October, and a wonderful time of year it is!
It’s about this time I start thinking of Halloween…..what to wear….what route to take the kids for treats and goodies….anything else special on the plans. I have a good idea of what I want to wear, but it’ll just be a matter of getting that together. I’m taking the day off, because the last place I want to be in my outfit is sitting on my arse in front of a computer for 10+ hours – not my idea of fun by any stretch of the imagination.
I went to the store the other day, and of course saw the mounds of costumes, and loads of candy….but then I saw it…..
The Christmas decorations!
I mean….what in the valley of wandering minds were people thinking when they thought it would be a good idea to place Christmas trees right across from tombstones and pumpkins? Oh yeah….corporate idiots who probably make Ebenezer Scrooge look like a saint! The overcommercialization of the holidays really drags down everything – it takes the whole spirit of the holidays away, and replaces it with “gimme gimme gimme greed”! I would think you should celebrate Halloween, then go on with Thanksgiving, THEN do Christmas – but then again, how else could you stuff so many “before Christmas” sales into the season as they do?
I still think if I see one more iteration of the “Tickle Me Elmo” line, I’m going to projectile hurl right into the lot of ’em. Who knows what will be the next fad that will cause mothers to break out into fistfights, get carted off to jail, and end up missing the holiday all because they had to make sure that their little angel got the latest big thing that was made by the sweatshops across the ocean.
Can you believe people get into fistfights in parking lots over shopping carts? It’s true – swear. I saw it happen once.
No wonder people get into online shopping, although I’m sure the people who work for USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx, and the rest aren’t too happy about it, the suits that run THOSE outfits are laughing all the way to the bank while their “elves” take care of the menial labour….it’s better than fighting the crowds.
I still am going to enjoy all that candy at the end of the month, right along with the kids…..and I’m doing my Christmas shopping online, thank you very much.
