Now this takes some intestinal fortitude!
Be warned – you may end up with hurting abs afterwards, but you’ll enjoy it too much to care!

I must’ve been visited by my creative muse once again, because the last couple of days has seen a rise in creativity coming from yours truly. How so? Well, the new LJ pic should be the first clue – yes, it’s different. It’s a version of the image that’s on my website at shockqueen.com – I had to change it – it was an OLD pic, and I needed something more recent. Yes, I did a virtual makeover online, then applied photoshop, but at least I’m there – right?
So I then make little versions for here, for customerssuck.com, for hhplace.org….I probably should make more various ones, but that would require someone actually coming with me to take pictures, and I don’t think there is anyone around here who is up for that challenge.
I did a re-make of my Mari Iijima Fan Club site, and set up some more CD listings to add to it, as well as making some major cosmetic changes to the whole site layout. It looks good, but I doubt I’m finished with it yet. I think there is more to do, but I’ve yet to come up with a better menu/title system just yet. I’ve been making the site for the past 10 years, and I’m very happy to do it. I don’t do it for profit, but for the love of the music! I have very few artists in my collection that I own more than a couple CD’s of, and this is one of them (the other two being Nina Hagen and David Bowie). Once I find music that has really good energy to it, I want to get as much of it as possible. Thankfully, I’ve had gracious friends who helped me tons acquiring all my Mari stuff, as most of it is pretty hard to come by.
One of these days, I’m going to get a real turntable for my stereo – or just buckle down and get a USB one for my computer so I can convert all of them to digital format, which wouldn’t be a bad thing, considering again, most of my stuff is pretty hard to replace. Thank goodness I don’t still have stuff on 8-track or reel-to-reel – that would be a bitch to do! I’m figuring a way of piping the audio output on my computer to my stereo, which happens to be on the other side of the room, and I don’t think they make RCA cables that long…..at least…..I don’t THINK so. I may be wrong on that one.
I still need to go back and do more drawing, but since I’m writing more and doing stuff on the computer more now, maybe that’ll kick back into gear too. I think I have to be in that state of mind where I’m happy with myself before my creativity kicks in – and it’s just getting started. I may finally finish some stories I’ve been thinking about, so right now just about anything is possible!
I think I had better luck keeping my vehicles nicer in larger cities. This time, at least, the damage was reversible….and made me thankful for the recent snow.
I went out to my car today to clean it off, and lo and behold, someone spray painted some letters on the trunk of my car – just mine – no other cars. Nice huh? Well, fortunately, it had snowed for 2-3 days, so when I brushed off the snow, it was wet enough on the trunk to where the “tagging” was able to be scrubbed off with the snow. I then drove down to the end of the street, and found someone had spray painted the side of the last townhouse.
Lovely things our new generation is doing, isn’t it? Oh, and don’t tell me it’s because of the area of town I live in. I’ve had my vehicles vandalized in all areas of this town, so it’s not limited to just one area – just don’t go there, mm-kay?
I’d so love to catch some of these miscreants and give them a little tender loving – with my clue-by-four. Rotten whippersnappers anyway. They really need a more creative outlet for their activities.
To all my friends out there – Happy (fill in the blank with the holiday celebration of choice)!!!!!!
I hope the holiday season brings you a lot of fond memories, happy thoughts, and good plans for 2009. Hugs to all!
I was doing some reminiscing tonight, and I remember some old shows that others may or may not remember. Ready for a nostalgia trip?
Okay…anyone remember Calliope? No, not the one with the animated intro on USA Network, although it did evolve INTO that. I remember growing up, there was a time on channel 3 when nothing would show on the screen but snow, but then, magically, around 3 or 3:30, this show would come on called “Calliope” – very simplistc intro with a close-up of a carousel and the word Calliope showing up one letter at a time. Gene would then introduce the shows he was going to show, but his “appearance” was a still image of a director in his chair with the word “Gene” on the back – those were never animated, although he did show some great cartoons! It was the only show to air on that channel on any given day, and then once it was over, the channel went back to snow. I didn’t see Calliope again until it surfaced on USA Network in the last form anyone would see – the one most people know. I remember writing to Gene once in the 7th grade, and he actually wrote back TO me – handwritten! I wish I still had the letter, because it was so special to me at the time. I honestly don’t know if our childhood friend Gene (Eugene Francis Sr.) is still alive, but if he is, I really wish he could continue to know just how special he was to us.
I also remember “Nickelodeon” back in its infancy, when it first came on – it wasn’t a 24-hour network, and it didn’t always have the orange “splat” logo – or even the silver pinball logo – it used to have either a male mime or just the hands doing all the filler bits between shows. Pinwheel was on for 5 hours each morning, and had great cartoons like “Charlie’s Climbing Tree” (Kalles Klattertrad), Chapi Chapo, Hattytown (remember Sancho?), Simon in the land of Chalk Drawings, The Bunny with the Chequered Ears(he has a homepage now!), and many others! There were other shows, such as The Tomorrow People, Video Comics, The Third Eye, Livewire, Children of the Stones, Mr. Wizard’s World, and of course You Can’t Do That On Television! It was a channel that was awesome in its heyday, but has sadly grown to lack the magic spark that it used to have, and has now mired into commercial hum-drummery.
I used to come home in the afternoons and watch Sesame Street (before it got watered down being PC), Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, and The Electric Company (heyyyyy you guyyyyys!). Another thing is, they just don’t make cartoons like they used to. I can rattle off a list that would take hours to go through, but some of the more memorable ones were Shazam/Isis, Tarzan and the Super 7, The Space Sentinels, Space Academy, Star Trek (animated), Ark II, Jason of Star Command, Lidsville, H.R. Puffnstuff, The Krofft Supershow – which had Magic Mongo, Wonderbug, Dr. Shrinker, ElectraWoman/Dynagirl, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and some others I can’t recall off the top of me hair. I also watched shows like The Hot Fudge Show and The Banana Splits quite often. We also watched Blackstar, Mighty Orbots, The Pirates of Dark Water, and 3 hours of Bugs Bunny/Road Runner.
Oh, and remember the afternoon cartoon lineup back in the 80’s? We had Thundercats, He-Man/She-Ra, M.A.S.K, Spiral Zone, Transformers (yes, the ORIGINAL series), GoBots, Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors, and G.I. Joe. I think these days, producers are rushed to make any new show that perhaps they have lost some of the actual love they have for what they do. I see animation with increasingly less detail than I used to, but that may be due to computer animation taking over. If anyone thinks the new Transformers is better than the original series, they’ve been sucking down the wrong energon cubes.
Wanna discuss some retro TV shows with me? Drop me a line, and we’ll have loads of conversation on this one. I’ve done entire nights of coffee just hashing out lists of shows that were brilliant back in the heyday of animation! I so wish someone would come up with a network that would bring back ALL of this magic and let us view it again – that would be SO awesome!
I have a fair degree of tolerance for just about anything out there, but if it’s one thing I just don’t get nowadays are those people who stop at nothing to make someone miserable. Regrettably, at this time, I feel I’m the angriest at the conservative Christian movement. Why? Oh sit down honey….this might take a while.
In the years I was growing up, I dealt a lot with judgment and rejection – most notably from this police officer who was a bit of a religious zealot who too seemed to take way too much delight in telling me anything I did was not “pleasing to God”, up to and including my wearing of a Cyndi Lauper t-shirt – I mean….how petty is that? Criticizing you on what you wear? Come on… Then while growing up, I realized how much I loved fashion, but didn’t quite grasp how that would come to bite me in the ass many times too. Much of the fashion I adore is labeled female, but I just love how much variety there is! So needless to say, when I went out, I was labeled a freak, a deviant, gay, sick in the head….you name it, I was pretty much called it. I did lose a number of good friends in those years – or at least those I THOUGHT were good friends.
I found that if I want to live life as I want to, I had to develop a very thick skin, and up my confidence about a thousand-fold. It took a number of years, but in the end, in 1986, I met probably the best friends I could ever have prayed for, who taught me that as long as you are happy with yourself, then all else is irrelevant. Now don’t get me wrong….there were years I was growing up in a Christian church, and was taught some very loving lessons. I was taught that we should love all people regardless of who they are – later on in life, I would come to realize that this teaching had a dark side. Yes, love everyone….as long as they believed in faith exactly as they did. If you don’t, then you are pretty much an outcast.
I have faith. I have faith in God – I know he is up there, and is probably shaking his head, wondering how we could practice both love AND intolerance in the same breath. I believe that your house of worship is in your heart – it doesn’t require a church to go to – it doesn’t require you to be of “one faith or the other”. I believe that God intended us to grow up as a race on this planet to love, cherish, and embrace one another – not judge based on HOW you live your life. I adore the people of this planet – we have done so much that is good – we have made great strides in positive directions. We could do much much more than we have now, but we seem to be now mired in this society politic that causes us to fight and hate one another over things that should never be fought over. We could grow as a planetary race, yet we fight over land, fuel, and beliefs because they conflict with each other – we have become so short-sighted and foul-tempered that we seem to enjoy misery for some reason!
This brings me to my subject line – I read online that not only are the people who backed Proposition H8 trying to justify it more, but are now wanting to take away the joy that those who were able to get married in the short time it was legal! They just can’t STAND to see someone happy that they would go to such an extreme extent as to crush it out of existence under their mighty doctrine! You just can’t leave well enough alone, can you? You have to make a show of force of everyone that does not see through your eyes! You Christian conservatives say to love one another and be with one another, yet you SPIT on that very statement with your venomous attacks on those who just want to live in happiness. You have no right to say you are a loving people when you go to such lengths to make someone suffer!
I don’t think God meant us to go down this path – I believe he meant for us to become enlightened beings, who have learned to live in harmony and peace with one another – not to fight and cause misery and suffering. Why is it so hard to let people be happy? Why is it such a task to let people breathe and be proud of who they are? People must be allowed to discover what makes them happy, and not have it thrust upon them like the giant anvil that you seem to lovingly toss at them.
I just want to love….is that so very very wrong? Oh…and Happy Christmas. I hope you find SOME happiness during this season.
I’m starting to really NOT like TV nowadays. It seems every other f**king commercial break is another (expletive deleted) LIFE INSURANCE commercial!!! I know we all go someday, but do you have to freakin’ fling it in my face every chance you get? Just makes you want to live off of DVD’s and video-on-demand just to get away from them!
Oh, and by the way…..SelectQuote, if you are listening………GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF (after you take our your own policy of course)!!!!!
I’m starting to really hate my bank. It’s one of those that’s in trouble, so I think they are changing rules to suit them from week to week, so I’m finally going to dump their butts and just stick with a local account so we have a real brick & mortar place to do our business. It’s funny that no matter how much you make, you never seem to have enough – I think it’s that whole paradigm that when you make more, you spend more. Oh how fun….until the bills pile up.
Time to make a fresh start in the new year. I did update my MySpace page, which admittedly has such limited control over how the page looks, so I may just go total creative and re-do my website again for the nth iteration. I did finally make my own little cave in our house, so I have a place to retreat to in order to create, think, and regain my sanity in some form or another. It’s hard to believe Christmas is only 9 days away – heck, it’s hard to believe 2008 is almost already over – scratch that….it’s hard to believe we’ve gone eight year past the turn of the millennium already! Time flies TOO fast sometimes, so I think I need to slow down a bit and take stock of the scenery about me before it whizzes all past.
It’s been pretty good minus the little speedbumps along the way, so I guess I can’t bitch too much……or can I? 😉
It’s about -13, which means it’s still freakin’ cold out there. The Billings Gazette had a beautiful picture of the smoke and steam rising from the various businesses – didn’t go all wispy as usual, but looks pretty concentrated – and somewhat menacing. Goes to show what the cold will do these days.
More layers….need more layers….brrrrr!
It’s -17 right now according to my computer, which translated means it’s bitterly COLD out there. I think our winter arrived with a vengeance this year. I can only hope that if it’s going to stay around that at least the temperature can go back up OVER zero sometime soon. Just because I grew up with these winters doesn’t mean I love the bitter cold THAT much. 😉
And no….I can’t move, so it’s time to layer up and pray the car starts each morning. Nice thing about small cars is that it doesn’t take much to get it going (less moving parts than a V-8).
