I’d been nursing an issue since last year, hoping against hope it would go away. It involved an idiot light saying “you are low on brake fluid”. It was an on-again, off-again thing….it would either be a few weeks or a few days between times the accursed light would come in, letting me know it was thirsty.
One thing I remember about brake lines is that if the cylinder gets low, air gets into the lines, and it is a bear to get the air out without a fair amount of effort, so I let it go as it was a minor annoyance at the time.
Well, recently the problem seemed to have gotten worse, and the brakes were getting harder and harder to stop with, so I gave in and made the decision to have a professional check it and see what it would take to get it fixed.
Was it a brake line? Nope.
Was it a brake cylinder? Nope.
Turns out it was a valve that looks like all the lines hook up to it, and that was leaking out through one of the seals on it, so it had to be replaced.
$200 later, and I have brakes as tight as a champ again! I pressed down on the brakes, and about took a header into my steering wheel, they gripped that well! Holy cow!
So yes…the wonder-wedge can stop on a dime once again AND give you nine cents change back!
