Remember back when you went to the music store to buy a record, cassette, or CD, just to listen to that one song…..or maybe two songs, but never bothered to listen to the rest of it? The rest of the songs just sat idle…….collecting dust on a shelf or in a box. Remember those days?
Sure……we all do.
Then we get to the digital age, where you can ship for your music a la carte, just picking the few choice bits, and forgetting the rest. I guess those people will never hear the whole canvas that the artist painted. If you go back and listen to those albums all the way through, you never know……you may just find more good music than you may realize!
The other thing I miss is the album art. There were days when you could walk into a music store and get interested in an album just by looking at the masterpiece on the cover. I’ve discovered artists like Danielle Dax and Dalbello just by viewing the cover……and as it turns out, the music was rather wonderful! I think the closest thing to that nowadays would be to check out what iTunes recommends in their online store.
I guess it may sound nostalgic, but there are times I miss perusing the old record shops. It’s just another form of entertainment that is slowly fading into the mists of obsolescence.
