Having spent the better part of my adult years in customer servitude, I would like to think I have seen and heard it all, yet every time I turn around, there is a brand spanking new level of suck just walking in the door waiting to smack me in the face – often times, it’s when I’m out shopping!
I tell you, I feel sorry for retail clerks. They get the brunt end of every brand of suck that you can imagine. They are talked down to like they are lower-class citizens (or worse), they are verbally – and sometimes physically abused by patrons, and then they have to work under some of the craziest rules that may have been thought possible.
One thing that just drives my senses crazy are the reseller shoppers. You can smell them coming a mile away – mostly because they have an armful of whatever is popular that time of year, and you know how that “new product smell” is. Yeah……that smell. They buy up every copy of a popular item in a store just to re-sell them online for profit. Don’t tell me it doesn’t happen. I’ve seen it happen more often than I care to think about.
This time…….it was in a Toys R Us store as we were checking out. This young man walks up to the cashier with a cart FULL of FOURTEEN copies of the new “How to Train Your Dragon 2 Ultimate Battle Figure Collection”. I can see 2 or 3, but 14??? You just know this smacks of re-seller (read: SCALPER!) I mean, I buy 2-3 copies of Skylanders figures, but they are for my family to play with and enjoy, not flip for a quick profit.
Thankfully, the manager came up and stopped him in his tracks and refused to sell him that large of a quantity. He told the person that they are a hot ticket item, and he would be allowed to buy only a few. He let the guy buy four, which still seems fishy to me, considering what it was he was buying and the timing of the sale – they were having a “buy one, get one 40% off sale”.
Go look on eBay right now. They are being re-sold for $30 or higher! You KNOW they were not sold for that high of a price in the store! I can just imagine the parents trying to buy these for their kids, only to see them sold out all over the place thanks to guys like this! I think that if something is a hot item, it should be limited to ONE or TWO per customer just to make sure everyone has a chance to buy them.
Scalpers suck, but eBay scalpers suck even more!
