These days, I am ever-worried about how the school is educating kids these days. Just seems so far-removed from the carefree days when we were younger. So much has changed, but in my opinion, not all of it for the better.
I remember a time when we went to school, played with the other kids, learned our schoolwork, had our lunch, learned some more activities, and then went home. If we had homework, we did it before the night was out – if not, all the better…..more free time for us.
So much of that has changed. For one, if you get to school early, forget about relaxing on the playground and gabbing with the other kids about the latest toys or hobbies – you get to walk in a circle until the bell rings. When did school start using procedures generally found in jails and prisons? Recess used to be fun and fancy free time to hang with your friends – now it’s all structured activities – wait……..wasn’t structure for when you were in class, and not recess?
The other thing that makes no sense is all of the triggering and being offended by everything. Wow people……..get over this stuff. I recently heard about a child that was sent home from grade school over “violent images on her lunchbox”. What was so horrible about this demon-possessed lunchbox that a child had to be sent home?
It had pictures of Wonder Woman on it – just standard heroic poses of a character that kids and adults have loved for years. Now it’s offensive? I’m sorry………but that offends me there. Are we extending our paranoid, triggered, offended selves into our children’s lives now? Makes me fear for our future if we have to walk on eggshells around each other……and at such a young age too.
School time is for learning, living, making new friends…….preparing you for your adult life! There is no need to make them into adults at the age of six. Let them be kids!
