As many of you know, the new wave of Eon’s Elite figures has finally arrived – with a bit of mixed feelings on the subject. At first, I was excited to hear about this new set, as perhaps maybe, after all this time, some of the figures that have never seen a re-release since the first game would get a little Eon love to them. The first set was very well put together – nice metallic paint, collector box, stat cards and stickers showing off how cool these characters were – these were the cool factor going into this set. Well, with the new set, there are some dark spots in the Skylanders kingdom.
The first of these figures to be released was Voodood, which is a pretty cool magic character that has some abilities that come in very handy! He was one of my personal favorites, so I was stoked to hear that this character was coming out as an Elite!
Well………..this series of figures isn’t quite as epic as the first set, and there are some reasons why….
First of all, the first series of Elite figures were painted in this nice, metallic sheen, which really made the characters POP. With this one, the weapon is a bit different and metallic, but the rest of the figure is the same matte finish as the regular figure from game 1!
This is a really cheap move on Activision’s part. I would have thought for sure that these were going to get the same attention to detail and awesomeness, but I guess I was sadly mistaken. Also, there is no stat card or stickers with this set, as there was with the last one.
Cost-saving move on your part, Toys For Bob/Activision? This was not a great move to make.
Also, with this series of Eon’s Elite figures, they have only announced SIX figures in this series.
Not eight to cover the elements – not ten to count light and dark – but just six.
Four out of the six are ones that have not seen a re-issue since Spyro’s Adventure – Voodood, Dino-Rang, Boomer, and Ghost Roaster – but……………what about Sunburn?? Sunburn was the one of the fire characters from the first game – came with a level pack, and had some pretty cool abilities, but sadly……..this fiery phoenix was left out in the cold – forgotten and forlorn. Wow………that character deserves some re-issue love, since the other four received at least some attention (although not as much as I would have thought).
If you pick up this character, it is cool that it’s been re-posed with a bit different weapon, and I’m sure it has the same buffed stats that all other Elite figures has, but it’s just lacking the wow factor and pop appeal that I had hoped would continue with this line of figures.
Sorry Activision and Toys For Bob……….but you done messed this one up badly.
