There seems to be a dichotomy in our world’s society views these days, and it seems to follow one of two trains of thought:
There is the train that tends to follow along the green pastures, full of peace and hope, where people work together to get along and live in a harmonious existence that benefits all.
There is another train that seems to traverse more rocky terrain and filled with conflict and aggression, where people tend to fight amongst themselves, and have little regard for lives outside of their own and their cause.
There seems to be very little ground on which these trains are running – and they are running at pretty much full steam……have been for quite some time it seems. The ground is also shaky from the uncertainty of the terrain that these trains are running on. One would wonder if one of these trains is going to run off the rails any day soon. When problems come up anywhere in the world, there is always this dichotomy that springs up, and there seems to seldom (if ever) any compromise ground between – it’s always swinging all the way one direction – or to the other. The past decade and a half seem to have sped up these trains much more than they used to be – either that, or it’s this constant in-your-face-news-presence that seems to be making this more of an issue than it needs to be.
So…….are the people to blame? Is the media? Is there really any one singular culprit in this whole thing? I somehow doubt there is any one singular source that would be held accountable for this other than the base emotions that we all seem so possess – greed, fear, anger, intolerance……..that’s on that rocky terrain train. It seems to be running a lot more than it used to – at least for a time. It’s sped up and slowed down over the years, allowing the peaceful train to chug along at a merry clip, getting to its destination when it has the chance to.
I’ve thought about the recent crises in the world lately, and my thought on it right now is that as long as the media is publicizing it, giving it video coverage to sensationalize it, they’re going to keep doing it. They want the attention, because they think it instills fear (well, that and the arsenal they have with them – they are scary people). Someday, someone will figure out a solution to this issue that will slow it down, because dreaming of stopping it entirely at this point is pretty much a pipe dream, what with these people out there who are hard-wired to get their way through any means necessary. Heck, even people of their own religion are disowning them now, it’s gotten that whacked out. Perhaps someday, even their own people will come up with a way of ending this – we can hope anyway, because it’s stuff like that which keeps that dark, rocky train going down the tracks.
We so need the peace train back.
