I was awestruck to see this towering building come down after it had stood for so many years! Growing up in Laure, we passed by this building many, many times, always taking for granted that it would always be there, but that night, the fates have proved us wrong. After so many years, it was starting to become unsafe for it to be still standing, what with sheets of metal blowing off in wind storms, and the recent years of disuse, it was time that the monument fell.
People who grew up in the area will always remember the elevator when it was owned by G.D. Eastlick, and before that, there were other companies that owned it, but it was always a centerpiece in our town. Now granted, people who grew up in major metro areas and other larger cities won’t realize the significance of this place, but for those of us who lived in smaller areas, we remember stuff like this. I, myself, never did any business at this location, but many people did over the years, and I’m sure they would have many interesting stories to tell about it.
