One of the things they say is that you should write about what you know. Well, one of the things I have come to know pretty well over the years is that when I find food that I love, I tend to let people know about it.
Well, in this day and age, it seems that every single place you go to have a meal at wants to know your opinion. They ask you to go to their website, take a survey, and often times you get a discount on a meal or some free food item. I have started doing these more often, most of the time out of sheer boredom, but sometimes because I like the freebie that they offer if you complete your task. I’m sure that these surveys, if read and reviewed like they say, go towards helping places find out what they’re doing right and what they’re doing wrong, and make changes accordingly. So heck….why not? I go to the places I enjoy, so why not let them know my brutally honest opinion?
One thing I do pride myself on when doing these is sheer honesty. If you love what you had, tell them! If you found something that needs improvement, tell them! If you found something that sucks or is disgusting, tell them that too! There is no shame in stating how you feel. They want to know how you really feel, so I figure why not give it to them straight and from the hip?
So my plan is to document the places that I go and have a meal, take some pictures, and then write up a review of it! I’m already on many social media fronts, so may as well make the most of them. One of the places I tend to write a lot about is on Facebook. Most places that I go have a Facebook page, so I figure why not do a review where they – and everyone else can see them. I also belong to a couple of local groups that also give reviews and critiques of various places, so I hit those as well.
These are all good and well, but not everyone knows to check various groups when they are new to the area or just passing through, so that is why I use things like TripAdvisor and Yelp, which are great sources for giving feedback as well. One thing to make sure you do though is be thorough…….and be honest. Don’t over-embellish or plow into the ground using profanity or other name calling – just tell it like it is from your honest point of view. Do be passionate too. Sometimes there is that one place that just blows your mind and makes your mouth water thinking about going back – that is what people want to know!
So from time to time, I’ll be doing up segments that I’ll call “Brutally Honest Reviews” (working title). I’ll have a category here for those as well, so you can sort through them as you see fit, but I also cross-post on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, so just look me up there (use the handle at the beginning of this web address – you know – before the wordpress.com part) and look around. You’ll see me out there!
