I have the same conversation with myself in my mind from time to time – usually revolving around the planning of what I want to accomplish in a day. I think of many possibilities, but most of them tend to go along the wayside and never get accomplished. Sometimes it gets frustrating knowing that I have everything I need to get what I want done………..but the time never seems to be there. Sometimes it’s due to circumstance, but sometimes it’s self-inflicted as well.
Maybe I’ve become too distracted in my daily life to really focus on one specific thing that I want to get done. That is always a possibility in our hyper-connected world that we live in nowadays, where thoughts can be squirted out in nice, neat 140-character bite-sized portions. Pictures can be shared across multiple networks – often being done all at the same time. We tend to absorb everything around us, and sometimes I think we end up absorbing too much, and just don’t have the time to sit back and process everything mentally that we have experienced.
I’ve had projects that I’ve wanted to work on for some time, yet never get around to starting them – or those that I do start, usually end up getting left unfinished. I have movies that are on my plan list of “things I really should get around to watching”, yet the list grows longer than I can keep up with. Oh……….I did watch two movies from the list though – “The Big Lebowski” and “Coming To America”.
Yes……..it took that long. Don’t laugh. Heck………I didn’t even watch “The Princess Bride” until about 3 years ago. I know…..I can hear you gasping over there. I don’t tend to watch everything as soon as it comes out. In some cases, that can be a blessing. I didn’t spend my money on watching the new “Ratchet & Clank” movie, based on the reviews I’ve read and watched thus far, but I know it’ll be out on Blu-Ray and digital download soon enough. Besides……I have the game to play, so at least that’s something.
I have started checking out some of the places I haven’t gotten around to having a meal at before, which is always a good thing, and in so doing, found a new German restaurant that I am really glad I went to, as it’s really good food! What’s even better is that it’s authentic! For a while, it was a daunting task finding authentic German food, even when I know the town I grew up in had a sizable German ancestral population! I still love pizza, and the various types that I can find at one place or another, so that remains and ambiguous decision on what I think is best, as I have a few different ones, all dependent on what type I’m into. At least I can still get Chinese, Japanese, Greek, and Indian food easily enough!
I need to get back into reading more, as that is something I used to enjoy quite a bit. I started reading this book called “Ready Player One”, and even though I think the author is a bit of a twit for the disbelieving of God, stating He is all made up fairy tales (do NOT get me started there), the rest of the book is quite good, and full of 80’s pop culture references which I can easily digest and absorb, so that part is fun. I need to get more into the book and find out what the meat of the story is! The premise is great though! I am also working on the second book of “The 11am trilogy”, which started with “The Blood That Bonds” – a great read for people who like a little different vampire story. You can get the first book free I think still, so you might look it up. I am also working on “The Tower of Ravens” by Kate Forsyth (I ADORE her work!), which takes off some time after the “Witches of Eileanan” series of books. I still like Star Trek books, as I can really get into the characters, and can hear their voices often times while reading, so those are an easy diversion.
You must read “Q In Law” from the TNG lineup – even better if you can get the audio book version, voiced by Majel Barrett and John DeLancie. Trust me on this……..you will not be sorry. Other great books are “Q-Squared”, “Metamorphosis”, “Vendetta”, “Imzadi”, and “I,Q”. Yes………I do love good Trek stuff. There was a six-part book set called “Double Helix” that went through the various Star Trek series’, and intertwined them all together – now that was compelling stuff.
So I guess some things I am actually making headway on………but I still have a long way to go. At least I have time.
