It’s amazing…..in a very chilling way! It actually makes me weep for future generations. Why? We’re getting LAZY!
OH…..you knew that already, did you?
I mean…people have gotten so wrapped up in being entertained by little boxes, whether it be a TV or a computer, and it’s amazing how people’s lives come to a screeching halt when it stops working, and then they turn into the uber-bitches and bastards of the universe until they get their “electronic pacifier” back! Now, don’t get me wrong, but I think that is just wrong in so many ways! Yes, TV and internet bring us all kinds of information and loads of entertainment, BUT….what about all that wide world out there to explore? What about seeing people face to face? What about writing letters with pencil and paper? What about………living? What would happen if all of a sudden, there was a giant EMP surge, and all the TV’s and computers just went POOEY? What then? Oh yeah! We’d be back in 1955 again! Okay, maybe just enough of one to throw us back to our active lifestyles of the 70’s and 80’s. People are just staying home and getting fat and lazy anymore, and our kids are going to end up paying the price worst of all. I’m glad my kids found watching “LazyTown” enjoyable, because after reading about it, the creator of that show had THE best idea for education in a VERY long time! I think our neighbors on the other side of the pond have things better off than we do because they’re out getting active more of the time than we are! Then there are those in Asian countries like Japan! How many fat Asians do YOU see running around, eh? Not many, I can pretty much guarantee you right now!
I read one of my friend’s blogs, and I think she truly has the concept of being alive down to an art form! Now granted, it took her moving 2 states away to FIND this out, but I’m truly glad she did. I remember when I was living in Denver and the OC how alive I felt most of the time (yes, Disneyland corrupted me), and here….here kinda sucks the life out of you. I don’t think it has anything to do with the people (well…..maybe it does), but….this town pretty much STILL rolls up the sidewalks at 9:00pm, and there is very little to do unless you enjoy hanging out in casinos, bars, or going cruising. Now, they did open up a new place called 12th Planet here, which I have yet to check out, but if anything can inject some LIFE into this town, then all the better. I actually got my bike out and rode it to work yesterday, and really surprised myself! I wasn’t pushing all that hard, and to travel about a mile/mile and a half, it only took me FIFTEEN minutes! Then again, I remember in my teenage years, I could ride my bike from Laurel to Billings within an HOUR! Now that takes some staying power people. If I could get back to that type of pace, then I’d be doing really well! No time like the present, as they say!
I so want to tell these crabby people who are so furious that their computer doesn’t connect to the internet (you spend hundreds of dollars in bells and whistles just to go online????) that HEY! They make games and applications that DON’T require an internet connection, or they could learn something, read a book, fly a kite, or ride a bike, but PLEASE don’t tell me your life is coming to an end just because you can’t get online! If your TV is out, then read a book, browse the mall, go for a walk, but DO SOMETHING! Better yet, pitch them down the time tunnel to 1985 and then see what they get, because Dish wasn’t there back then, and cable wasn’t digital OR high definition! You want realism? The world is out there – GO SEE IT!
It’s kind of ironic that I’m putting this here….through a little box….isn’t it? Yes…yes it is. I think I need to perhaps stop working so much overtime and spending more time doing more creative things – but maybe just after we get all the way settled in. We have yet to fully convert our place from “warehouse mode” to “living space” mode – just got enough stuff out to get by with, and left the rest. Uh uh…that’s not gonna work. The boxes have-to-go-NOW! THEN I can get down to the decorating, embellishing, and all those wonderful things that make a house a home. Then I get to set up all the electronic jungle for all the purposes it’s used for. It’s going to take some time, but I think we can get it whipped into shape toot-sweet, and then it’ll be all good again.
Geez, this post jumped all over the place, but man….I feel so much better.
