I don’t envy our nation’s lawmakers. They have a really tough decision on their hands. How do you solve immigration reform without pissing someone off? I’m not sure if you really can. You have one side that says “Kick them out and let them start over the right way”, and then you have the other side that says “They have families here and should be welcomed.”
One of the facts of this is that there are some who come over to start a new life – to see if they can make things better for themselves than where they were before. You also have those who sneak over solely to get a job so they can send the money BACK across the border to their families. The business owners aren’t helping this struggle any either. They knowingly hire undocumented immigrants, and then claim that no one else wants the jobs that they are giving these people. I suppose that is true if you are paying them lower than the mandated minimum wage. Also, how do they know that NO ONE wants those jobs?
Have we become a nation that is too lazy for manual labor if all other jobs are taken at the moment? Have we gotten to the point where we’ll turn a blind eye to an illegal alien doing a job that we would rather not do?
OK fine…..they’re here. We’re probably not going to have any luck getting them to go back and go through the right way, so now what? Perhaps we should have immigration stations that can be set up to where people can go in, get identified through fingerprints and/or DNA, so that way we have a record of them in our nation’s records, and then work on getting them integrated – give them a deadline to have this done, and if they STILL choose to ignore this gesture, then they should be detained and sent back over the border.
But this has been going on for YEARS – perhaps DECADES with no real resolution. Are we delusional to expect a resolution to such a problem……one that has drained resources that are needed for US Citizens? We complain that these people are taking jobs, yet when someone steps up and makes a tough law against them, all of a sudden, they are made to look like th bad guy, and it’s “un-American”.
Look…..either we want a solution, or we don’t, but come on…..let’s go one way or the other with this! If you want to get this fixed, stop bitching when someone DOES do something about it!
This is part of our root problem. We are a nation of COMPLAINERS, and nothing that we do isn’t going to piss SOMEONE off on one side of the aisle or the other. To me, let’s just solve the current issue, and give these undocumented people one last “easy road out”, and then if they don’t go with it, then load ’em up and ship ’em out! We really need to end this, and move on.
