There is an old saying that says “May you live in interesting times”. Whoever wrote that had no idea how true it would be, even today.
So here we are, going about town getting stuff done, and on our way home, thought we should stop for gas, so we went out to Sam’s Club since it has the cheapest gas in town. We go to the pump, shut off the car, and get out to slide the card in the pump to get our gas. I look at the screen, and it says……..
“This Site Is Closed” – I guess they figure people can’t be trusted to pump their own gas at a place that has card readers ON the pumps. REALLY????
So anyway, I get back in the car, we turn the key, and………..
Nothing. The car won’t start. The battery is dead. It seems the alternator actuall did stop working some time ago and I was running on battery power for some time (yes, it was brand new).
This happened at 12:30 – I have to be at work at 1:30!
So since it was cold out, I had the rest of the family stay in the car and try to keep warm that way while I walked back to the house and pray tha one of our other cars would actually start. It’s the better part of a mile from Sam’s Club to our house, but I made good time. I got back, grabbed the jumper cables and got in the Subaru, which I couldn’t use the other day due to the door lock being frozen! I get up to it, stick the key in – and it turned! Yay!
I beat it back to Sam’s, jump the Ford so the rest of the family can get home, and then I’m off. I managed to make it to the gas station for some petrol and STILL got to work with like, 4 minutes to spare! I felt accomplished!
The good part about the day was that when I got off work and went home, my wife timed everything to where she just finished cooking up the dinner when I walked in, everything smelled gooooooooood and tasted even better! Just a nice, small family-type Thansgiving dinner with all the fixin’s.
Oh….and yes, we did get the alternator fixed the next day, so that car is back in business again – got IT fixed just in time to go to work! Go Lisac’s! I think today is calling for some nice warm pie with some Cool Whip on it! It’s my day off now and I’m just gonna chill.
