Well, my diary – my online world where I sit and think of new things to say – it’s been a month. Then again, each day is part of another month.
Have I done anything new this month? Well, each day I wake up is a new beginning to a new day, so there is that, but on a more mundane level – not so much anything really Earth-shattering. I know……not the strongest statement to make to sum up a month, huh? I have learned that sometimes the best support you can give a friend is to just be there, quietly, and be positive about all they do, knowing they are happy inside. Sometimes if you do too much, it can have the opposite effect of what you are trying to set out to do.
Last night (read: Friday night), I went out to karaoke – something I do far too infrequently for my taste, but I decided to go since I was asked out by some friends of mine. I learned two things – one, I still enjoy karaoke, and make no bones about showing off my wacky singing energy – and two, dance clubs nowadays are just not for me. I don’t get the music that the new generation considers to be good. This should really come as no surprise, since it seems to be a generational thing. Each generation just doesn’t get the music that the new generation listens to – it happens – it’s part of life.
Oh……my old nemesis – the check engine light showed up again, but this time it was due to a cracked vacuum hose. Nice thing is that it didn’t cost me a whole lot to get it fixed. I still need to get a couple of things fixed on my little Subaru, but now that it’s getting warmer, it’ll be easier to fix. Even though my older car is now 28 years old, I still enjoy driving it quite a bit.
I am a bit melancholy about the current day and age, because I think of my favorite decade, and now how far behind me it is. I guess it’s true that if you live in the past, it just hurts more and more as time marches on, because it will always be running away from you, and you’ll never be able to live those years again – only remember them.
Oh yeah……my lawn needs a lot of TLC this year. I keep telling myself I’m going to get around to it this year, but “this year” never seems to happen. I do the mowing and occasional watering, but I just never get around to tending to it the way I really want to. I think it’s part not having enough money to do it right, and part just pure procrastination – just never getting around to it because I get distracted by something else that just happens to pop up and take my attention away from it.
So what songs did I end up singing the other night? I know some are curious, so the ones I remember are:
China Girl – David Bowie
Simply Irresistable – Robert Palmer
Beds Are Burning – Midnight Oil
Who Can It Be Now? – Men At Work
Achy Breaky Song – Weird Al Yankovic
The Monkees Theme – The Monkees (2 of my friends joined me on this)
Beth – Kiss (I really enjoyed this one a lot)
Makes me remember the one time I was invited to sing on stage with a band – just one time, and I’ll always remember it, even though I was told not to give up my day job. I’ll always be grateful to the members of Made Ya Look for that rare opportunity. I know it’s something that’ll never happen again, so I’ll just cherish the one time.
I look forward to the spring, and maybe……..just maybe I’ll get around to the lawn this time.
