Why is it that you can put in many applications, never hear from anyone for a long time, and then they all start calling at once? Is it some sort of psychic connection that employers share that say “Hey…let’s really frazzle this froopy dude and all call him today!”? I wonder sometimes.
The hardest thing I do is get a job, then a better one comes along, and then have to let the other employer know “hey, you’re good…but not that good” and leave them. I like some jobs because they pay well, and some because I just love doing it. I’ve found that oft times, you take the job that you like much more over the one that pays better because you know you’ll stay with it longer.
Then there’s the guilt trips…..the person you’re leaving will plead with you, tell you “oh, you really need to work out this week” when you know you’re going into something that requires your undivided attention….that just doesn’t fly with me. If I get an opportunity, I go with it. I just have to choose my paths carefully so I’m not burning a bridge that I’ll later need to come back across. I did that once too often for my taste.
It’s just nice to be a “wanted person” in the workforce and have people saying “I want him” and “No, I saw him first”….that’s what I do live for, rather than have to beg and put on a fake grin and say “please can you give me a chance?” I’ve finally made it to a nice plateau, so now I have my breathing room and a chance to see what is out there.
By the way…..go with the place you actually get along with people….they’re MUCH more fun, and you’ll find there are plenty of hidden rewards that you wouldn’t notice at first as well. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to experiment with your path!
